Up Up and Away on the 21st of May

It's that time again.

Another doomsday prophet has predicted the end of the world (sort of) with the rapture happening May 21st 2011. I am sure you have all heard about it. If not all you need to know is related in these two articles:

In this post I won't go into the long history of predictions of the end of the world. There is an extended list here: A Brief History of the Apocalypse. Since the Assyrians in 2800BC mankind has been awaiting impending doom. From the beginning, we have been seeing the end as nigh.

But the Bible tells us that no man will know when the end of the world will occur. Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew 24:35-37 tells us,

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be."

Harold Camping also predicted that the rapture would happen in 1994.

In this world of doubts, upheaval and fear one thing we can count on is that the rapture will not happen on May 21, 2011. And the World will not end in October 21st.

Even the Theology of the Rapture is quirky; it is less that 150 years old and was formed in a controversial period of Christian History. But more on that on May 22nd.

Until next Time,
Pastor Swope

Being a Christian should mean following the teachings of Christ, and the Bible should be the ultimate truth. That said, how can Harold Camping truly be a representative of Christian teachings when he teaches falsehoods ?

As you stated "But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only". Also keep in mind Deuteronomy 4:2 "Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you".

Camping basically has deceived with his false prophecy and I fear is leading some away from Christ. The news stories try and represent Camping as actually speaking from the bible with his asinine predictions and people laugh at Christianity when it turns out to be false.

2 Timothy 4:3,4 : For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth , and be turned aside to fables.

We've got a reprieve until October according to the latest word from Mr Camping.

"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." - and Harold Camping who has the audacity to claim that he's better than angels and Jesus Christ Himself.

Camping also says that God's judgement hit on May 21 and I think he's claiming that nobody can be saved between now and October 21.

Mr. Camping needs to look very closely at what the Bible says about false prophets.

I knew of Harold Camping in the 1970s when I was a shortwave listener and he bought WNYW and renamed it WYFR. He has quite the broadcasting empire, yet he is very modest and his programming pretty much old time hymns and bible reading.

He doesn't fit the flamboyant mega-church stereotype, and he does spend donations on his ministry, not himself.

Later on he got into all of this end-times prediction by the numbers as if he discovered something hidden. He "loop-holed" out of the "no man knows" verse by claiming it was meant for the "church age" (which ended in 1988 according to his understanding) and not the "end times."

I never met someone so sincere and compelling, yet so taken in by his own take on the Bible.

And yes,his followers would say of May 21st,"it's in the Bible."
